Harnessing Technology for Engagement and Achievement The book by Schrum and Levin (2009) provides key information for school administrators wondering where to begin with the vast and varied amount of educational technology tools that school districts are utilizing to enhance instruction and practice. The book is divided into three parts with the first reserved for leading and learning in the 21st century. The second part of the book looks at a variety of Web 2.0 tools that support the goals of 21st century learning and some applications to specific curriculum areas are explored to provide concrete examples for reference. Finally the third section deals with leading with technology. Of particular interest to my work is the focus of chapter seven Increasing communication to build community. This chapter serves to provide school leaders with an overview of Web 2.0 tools such as wikis, blogs and podcasts and how these interactive tools can improve communication and collaboration amongst all members of a school community. The focus is to harness the power of your school community by utilizing technology to communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders. |
